Privacy policy
Short version: we collect as little as we can get away with, we do not sell anything to anyone, and nothing goes on your device for analytics or affiliate tracking until you say yes.

The West List is operated by Okapi and Co (South) Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 16916584, registered office in Child Okeford, Dorset. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.

What we collect, and why
If you submit an event or a business
We ask for your email address, plus the details of the listing itself. The email is used only to check the listing with you if something looks wrong, and it is never published. Everything else you type is intended for publication — that is the point of submitting it.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests (running a moderated listings service). You are choosing to send it to us, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
If you sign up to the newsletter
We store your email address, and which county you signed up from if you used a county page. Lawful basis: consent. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
If you just read the site
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. Analytics and affiliate tracking are covered in the cookie policy and neither runs until you accept.

Some of these process data outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent safeguards. Worth confirming each provider’s current transfer basis before launch.
We do not sell personal data, and we never will.
How long we keep it
- Submitter emails: kept with the listing while it is live, and deleted when the listing is removed.
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
- Server logs: as long as our host retains them, which is a matter of weeks rather than years.
- Analytics: according to the retention setting on the Google Analytics property. Set this to 14 months rather than the default.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct it if it is wrong;
- delete it;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- withdraw consent, where consent is what we relied on.
Email jim@okapiandco.co.uk and we will deal with it within one month. There is no charge.
If you are not happy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Children
This site is for a general audience and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.
Changes
If we change what we collect or who processes it, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
