Terms and conditions
The plain-English version: check event details with the organiser before you travel, only submit listings you have the right to submit, and anything we have been paid for is always labelled.
Last updated: 16 August 2026
Who you are dealing with
The West List is operated by Okapi and Co (South) Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 16916584, registered office in Child Okeford, Dorset. Using this site means accepting these terms.
Event and business information
Most listings come from organisers, venues, councils and tourism sites, and we credit and link the source where we have one. We check what we publish, but details change: times move, events are cancelled, prices go up, venues close.
Always confirm with the organiser or venue before travelling, paying or making plans. We cannot accept responsibility for a wasted journey, a cancelled event or an out-of-date price. Where a listing links to the organiser, that link is the authoritative source, not us.
If you spot something wrong, tell us at jim@okapiandco.co.uk and we will fix it.
Submitting a listing
By submitting an event or a business you confirm that:
- you have the right to submit it, and to let us publish it;
- the information is accurate as far as you know;
- it does not infringe anyone else’s rights, and is not misleading, offensive or unlawful.
You keep ownership of what you submit. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce and promote it across The West List and the wider network of town sites, including in our newsletter and on social media. You can withdraw a listing at any time by emailing us, and the licence ends when we remove it, except for copies already sent out in an email or a social post.
Every submission is reviewed by a person before it appears. We may edit for clarity, length or house style, and we may decline anything without giving a reason. Being declined is not a judgement on your business.
Paid placement and affiliate links
Two ways money touches this site, both always visible:
- Featured placement. A business or event can pay to appear more prominently. Anything paid for carries a “Featured” label. Payment buys prominence only. It never buys a listing we would have refused, a better description, or a followed link — paid links are marked
rel="sponsored"so search engines know. - Affiliate links. Some accommodation links earn us a commission if you book through them. It never costs you more. See the cookie policy for how that is tracked, and only after you have accepted.
Free listings stay free. We do not charge a business simply to exist on this site.
Linking out
We link generously to venues, organisers, town sites and tourism bodies. We are not responsible for what is on those sites, and a link is not an endorsement.
Acceptable use
Please do not:
- submit listings for events or businesses that do not exist;
- scrape, bulk-download or republish our listings without asking;
- attempt to disrupt the site or its submission forms.
If you would like to use our event data — a town site, a council, a local paper — ask. We are generally happy to say yes.
Our content
The West List name, logo, county colour system, icons and page design belong to Okapi and Co (South) Limited. Listing content belongs to whoever submitted it, or to the source we credited.
Liability
We provide this site as it is, and we do not guarantee it will always be available or error-free. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using the site or relying on a listing.
Changes and law
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when they last changed. They are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
These terms are a solid working draft written around how the site actually behaves, but they have not been reviewed by a solicitor. Worth an hour of proper advice before launch.
